The circus that is Oprah! Its all gone a bit Oprah crazy over the last few days with her show being recorded on the forecourt at the Opera House. Exclusiion zones in the harbour and the type of security reserved for visiting presidents has all been rolled out for the TV queen. Famous for giving away lavish gifts to her audience (300 of which have been flown over from the US) she gave a local cancer sufferer $250,000 so he could spend more time at home getting better
All appears to have run smoothly tho except for Hugh Jackman receiving a black eye after failing to slow down enough on a zip wire from teh top of the Opera House.
In addition to this – U2 are in town. Wannabe Mother Teresa, Bono has delivered possibly the largest and most impressive stage ever seen in Australia.
Unfortunately, thats where the praise ends. I was at the gig last night and to be honest it was pretty ordinary. Sat in the farthest reaches of ANZ stadium you kind of expect the sound quality to be crap but at times it was completely inaudible. The set list was also a little odd going from old school classics straight into newer balads and leaving the audience heading for the nearest queue at the bar. I also though that despite U2s endless quest for equality, they were only playing to a few thousand people directly in front of the stage and the rest of us who didn’t want to pay $$$ a ticket didn’t really get a look in. Never mind the poor folks sat around the back of the supposed 360 degree setup.
Im glad I went and maybe had I been in amongst it it would have been a different experience, but definitely only 2 out of 10.
