The Layne Beachley Classic is one of the richest events on the ASP world tour. This years event, held at Dee Why over the last week was finally won by 18 year old Carissa Moore in an impressive 2m+ swell earlier in the week. I had hoped the event would last till the weekend but the finals concluded on Friday arvo. I got up early on Saturday morning anyway to be met with a great sunrise and things were already packed out in the lineup by 7:30am. Despite the air temperature only being around 12 degrees early on, the water temps are still over 20 degrees so theres always plenty of folks around on days when theres a good clean swell.
And to top it off, we were all fortunate to be joined by a number of locals. A pod of around 6 or 7 dolphins showed up to show everyone else how to do it, surfing the waves almost to the beach before turning round and heading out to sea again
