Its been a busy weekend just gone with thankfully some blue sky after the drenching we’ve suffered over the last 10 days or so. Started off with a fairly uneventful morning down at North Narrabeen. Despite the radar only showing a light cloud cover, the increasing light proved that this wasn’t to be the case and thick cloud covered pretty much the whole sky. Got a few shots but nothing really of any note. Met a press photog however who told me that the Layne Beachley classic was on at Dee Why (in fact it had been on all week and they had some awesome conditions on the Friday – dont know how I missed that….). A beautiful day and a great crowd partly due to the food and wine festival running next to the surf club. This is a womens only event and has the highest prize out of all the SP rounds (why the womens prizes are so low compared to the mens escapes me) – honors was taken by Courtney Conlogue picking up a sweet $30,000. There then followed a celebrity surf comp with some local stars taking to the water including Bondi Vet Chris Brown and Australian swimmer Geoff Huegill.
Sunday saw a trip down the coast with crushers Scoots and Matt Adams. All psyched for a day of Nowra rock, the weather had other plans. South Central resembled a sauna complete with a few million mossies. We quickly bailed and headed to Cheesedale where thankfully the conditions were much improved. Theres a huge amount of water still to drain so it’ll take a good few days of fine weather before things dry properly. Next weekend its up to the mountains so hopefully some clear skies and good temps are ahead!
