This years comp was held over the last weekend of June and what a great couple of days. Mr & Mrs Sports Climbing Australia, Rob and Carlie LeBreton are absolutely tireless in their commitment to developing sport climbing in Australia and put on a great event assisted ably by Villawood Climbing Centre and a host of other voluteers. Big thanks to you guys.
I only watched the finals on Sunday afternoon but it was a tight few hours of competition with Open A&B and the Masters finals all taking place. All the routes appeared to be set really well, only letting a select few to within a couple of moves of the anchors.
The Open A final particularly so with only Daniel Fisher navigating himself through the technical roof section only to be spat off by a hard move onto the final headwall.
The crowd we’re kept well entertained by MCs LeBreton and Adams and provided plenty of enthusiasm to propel the guys onwards and upwards.
In the end though, there can only be one winner with Daniel Fisher taking home the honors in the Mens and Monique Forestier the recipient in a very tightly contested womens competition – both receiving the coveted Golden Matador! (Sophie Franoux actually won the climbing but being from New Caledonia was ineligible to take the title of Australian Womens Champion)
