Saturday just past saw the final of the world X-Fighters tour, hosted on Cockatoo Island, Sydney. FMX riders from across the globe compete in this showcase event which runs for seven months and produced by the mother of all energy drinks, Red Bull.
Unfortunately, despite a run of blue skies, the weather wasn’t really interested in co-operating and the morning was pretty much constant drizzle. The heavy rain however held off enough to let the eight riders who had qualified for the finals to battle it down to the final two
Bliss n Esso provided the beats and got the crowd revved up for action. The jumps came thick and fast with riders going all our for this final event. It says something of the standard where doing a one handed front somersault 40 feet plus up doesn’t earn you a place in the final showdown.
Frances Thomas Page and New Zealands Levi Sherwood were left to do battle in the final 2 minute rounds. It could have gone either way but in the end it was Sherwood who clinched victory both in Sydney and the championship overall.
